The VHS Rhein-Sieg, the Institution of Adult Education for the Rhine-Sieg region, has one of the largest operating areas within the adult education sector in Germany. As a non-profit Zweckverband (partnership of convenience), the VHS Rhein-Sieg caters to the needs of nine cities and communities in a rural area which has a size of about 40 by 60 kilometres. 20 full time staff, pedagogues and administration, and 400 free-lance staff offer about 40,000 teaching lessons per year in the fields of computing, languages, health education, cultural education, political education, natural science, the arts, vocational training – especially teacher training - or school leaving exams to about 30,000 participants.
