The University of León , a public higher education institution located in León, was created by national act 29/1979 and since then it has developed a two campus comprehensive type of institution with 12 different centres organising 50 different academic programs.
There are 33 departments, 886 teaching staff and 560 administrative staff.
At present this institution, which incorporated the ERASMUS ECTS first extension scheme and developed information packages for all of its academic degrees in a very early stage of this program, has a network of over 250 Higher Education Institutions and, with an international student intake of 304, sends 380 students abroad each year.
The Department of Modern Philology in the faculty of Arts offers degree programmes in both English and French philology, teacher training, and English and French to students throughout the university. The department is also involved in the development of computerized tools applied to research and language teaching.
