INTERCULTURAL LECTURE 4: “DO YOU SERVE MEXICAN TACOS?” ABOUT PARALINGUISTIC GUESSING
(DOT ASTROM)
After interpreting the meanings of various signs, gestures, facial expressions etc. and discussing the different meanings in different cultures, we had to build teams and were asked to imagine the following:
You are staying at a hotel in a foreign country and you need to ask something, but as you have lost your voice due to a soar throat, you have to mime! So each member of the group had to mime a message and the others had to interpret it.
It was great fun and we learned very much about different signs, gestures etc. used in other European countries! At the end of the lesson, there was a group discussion about the different ways to mime, cultural generalizations and symbols which enable us to communicate effectively with each other.
